RIP Shea Osprey

Unfortunately, the Osprey we picked up in Queens had to be euthanized. His terrible injury and subsequent infection left no choice in this poor guy's fate. It is a constant reminder that we do not live in harmony with earth creatures, but rather live in total ignorance of them and their habits. In light of that, I thank this beautiful bird, and my friends, for allowing me to learn and share about the mystery and power of this beautiful animal.

Take These Broken Wings

Got a report today about an injured adult male Osprey out in a parking lot near Willets Point. Bobby Horvath had already corralled the bird by the time I got there, and mentioned the fracture to the right wing may not be repairable. He was on his way back out to LI to a vet to get some xrays...more updates as they become available.

Good luck bro and thanks again to the Horvaths for their tireless work!

Birds everywhere you Tern.

GBH flying off with a freshly caught eel.

Oxymoronically, an albino black duck.

Aptly named, Glossy Ibis.

Egrets in repose.

YCNH with a railbird lurking in the reeds!

Speaking of lurking.

And finally,

the awesome Osprey!

Shout out to all my Peeps on Cross Bay Blvd.

Riverside Park Hawk Babies

Finally got a chance to check out the little dudes over at Riverside Park...they seem to be doing great! Hopefully they will continue to thrive although once fledged, there are a whole new set of dangers awaiting them. Till then its just wait and see.
