Kestrel Fledges

These guys are popping out all over the City right now. Most of the emails I get are of a "small hawk" under a car. Thankfully its usually gone by the time I get there, meaning the bird is healthy enough to strike out again on its own. Here's a gallery of some recent close encounters. babykes 2 kestrels kes2

Independence Day

This year's crop of youngsters is getting harder and harder to find. Testing their new independence, they now range to the limits of their parents territory. I've been spotting juvenile kestrels, peregrines and hawks from my roof for the past week now. But the best chance of seeing them is staking out the nest where they will return when hungry. That's where I caught up with one of the Cathedral youngsters. RTHvsJay HotHawk HotHawk2 HawkHop Glad to see you free!
